In official Pre-announcement:   The Faculty of Forest and Environmental Sciences of the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg/Breisgau-Germany, offers the position of a full Professor (Chair) for Forest Operations (W3) (Preferred starting date of the appointment: 01. April 2011).

 

The applicant shall cover the broad area of Forest Operations in both research and academic teaching.  This comprises the analysis and design of systems and processes for the sustainable management and utilisation of forests and landscape.  Topics of particular interest include: Forest Technology and Harvesting, Bioenergy and Renewable Bio- Resources, Forest Engineering, Transport systems and Logistics, Environmental impact analysis and Technical impact assessment. Also the aspects and needs of human labour involved in these systems and processes should be taken into consideration.  The applicant shall actively participate in the academic teaching and the coordination of the existing and future study programs of the faculty.  She/he will be expected to develop and offer teaching modules in the area of Forest Operations for the B.Sc. and Master programs offered in German language as well as for the International Master programs, offered in English language.  For more information visit the website of the faculty: http://www.ffu.unifreiburg. de.  Furthermore an active participation in the Graduate School of the Faculty: Environment and Society in the context of Global Change is requested.  The applicant is also expected to actively participate in the Universities interdisciplinary Research Centressuch as the Centre for Renewable Energies (ZEE). Special attention is given to the continuation of the existing close contacts and active cooperations of the institute with industry and with research organisations at the national and international level. In particular, the position requires efforts and success in acquiring research funds from various sources and programs.  The applicant will work at the Institute for Forest Utilisation and work science together with a second professor who is in charge of the various aspects of forest products and wood science.
